What Should I Expect After My Root Canal Treatment?
For the first few days after the completion of your root canal treatment, the tooth may be sensitive due to inflammation, especially if there was pain or infection prior to the procedure. This sensitivity or discomfort can usually be controlled with over-the-counter pain or anti-inflammatory medications. Most patients can return to their normal daily activities the next day.
Until your root canal procedure is completely finished — that is to say, the permanent crown is in place, it is recommended that you minimize chewing on the tooth under repair. This step will help avoid recontamination of the interior of the tooth and also may prevent a fragile tooth from breaking before the tooth can be fully restored.
As far as oral hygiene is concerned, you should brush and floss normally and see your Den-Care Smile Center dentist at normally scheduled intervals.
